WELCOME OUR NEW MUSICIAN

by

Terry Icard

We are very happy to have KYLE WALKER join us as our Church Musician 8/30/09.  The committee that met with and selected Kyle learned a bit about him and are quite pleased he accepted our offer.  We thought you might want to know more about him, too.  Kyle is a Sophomore at ECU, double majoring in Music Performance and Broadcast Journalism. He is a recent high school graduate of The University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied under Clifton Matthews, a Julliard School trained pianist and recipient of two Fulbright awards for study in Munich, Germany.

Kyle began piano instruction at the Community Music School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the young age of three.  Instructors have included Joyce Perry, founder of the Clemmons, NC Music Club and Pianist and Composer Debra Suarez of the NC School of the Arts Community Music School.  Kyle has also studied at festivals such as the Tibor Varga Music Conservatory in Sion, Switzerland.  He has competed and won numerous competitions including recently winning the National Talent Hunt of Omega Psi Phi, a National Fraternity.  His home is in Winston Salem, NC, where he spent the summer as organist and choir director for his home church.  He also had an internship with local television station, WXII 12 news. In addition to being our organist and pianist, he works for the ECU television station.  He will be playing piano and organ and may invite other musicians to join him at times.  He is also interested in directing the choir, at least for special occasions, more often if possible.

Many of us have heard Kyle play and are very glad he is with us.  Those who haven’t heard him yet are in for a treat!  Please extend your warmest welcome to Kyle.
